Instagram tests hiding photos

Instagram has hidden photos in selected countries internationally as a limited trial, in a bid to detoxify itself and dig its own grave.

The test will see photos removed from view to eliminate psychological pressures to constantly scroll through the endless feed of artificially beautified people pretending to live happier lives than they actually do.

Under the new regimen, users can still see posts but will no longer be given a photo, meaning people must actually try to remember how their “friends” look like and use the power of imagination to visualise the meaningless stuff everyone shamelessly brags about.

Confirming the extension in a series of tweets (because their own platform sucks), Instagram wrote: “Heads up! We've been testing hiding photos on Instagram which completely defeats the whole purpose of our app. Hope it sets the humanity free and sends us to the abyss of oblivion!”

In making the switch Instagram stressed it was mindful of the importance of photos as an indicator of engagement for influencers and marketers and would investigate other ways of providing these two vulnerable audience segments a new meaning of life and ego stroking.
